Aladdin

Lost Musicals
Sadler’s Wells
Directed by Ian Marshall Fisher

My third 'Lost Musical' was Cole Porter's Aladdin – not a pantomime, but the original fairy story told, as a fairy tale, for American T.V. back in 1958. It’s only been seen on the British stage once before: it was stage the following year at the Coliseum (before the English National Opera arrived there) and transformed into more of a pantomime, with the addition of more Porter songs, and with a young Bob Monkhouse in the lead.
